Mr.Noah’s Opus by Noah Kleiman, 2010
Mr. Fix -it Teacher. Write-it, Planner. Pitch-it in the elevator
Meet them, send it, Pay-it when we can
Mr. Clean-it , Show-em. Coding-maven. Scrounging, scrimping, money savin’
off the cuff, right stuff, hear-a-hit, that’s it
Hey Chipper Chunkee, teeth a flashion with ironic t-shirt and rolled up slacks on
Biking 'round town, greying hair , and warm blue stare
Mr. Make -it mock-it, Muffler rattle. Uphill struggle and burnin' your candle
postmark date, or it's late ? The Airport place !
Mr. Grant Decision mail box checker, wayward foundation award mad hatter
come to see the place ? Face-to-face ? That can be arrainged !
It's Mr. Noah's opus, So Hum it, Sing it ,When the going gets hopeless, it's helpful to scream it
With a big old grin on your face, in a state of grace
Conflict of Interest forced a, rash decision I tried to warn them but they wouldn’t listen
Where did the funding for it go ? Hey...I told you so.
So, I've been keeping busy, I job search daily,
for a worthy workplace, that can afford to pay me
I'm not picky. Nikki, I'll take any-thang
Writing tasty tunes, then I record them, with a tube amp loaned from Paul Van Orden
If I get my way, one day they'll crown him the king of Portland
It's Mr. Noah's Opus, and Noah Wrote it, Gonna keep adding verses, till the day I croak (yeah)
so check back in, now and then, this song doesn't end

I'm Content

I’m Content by Noah Kleiman January 2011
Well I never was as clever as a Superstar
And my name won’t speed up Wednesday or sell more drinks before last call
Got a great lady waiting back at home for me
She’s wearing nothing but the cat
and I contend, I’m content with that.
I’ve never been athletic and competition’s not my thing
I’ll never win awards for what I play or how I sing
if my genes and her home cookin’ keep me fed and slightly fat
I confess, I’m content, with that.
I’m not an author, or that blogger yer always saying I should read
I can’t fix a car, or whistle loud, with my fingers at my teeth
But I have a good woman who cares for me
she clears the cat hair off my back,
and I contend, I’m content with that.
Ba yup ah Doh, ba y da da Doh Bay UP ah doh
Doh ba y da da ba y da da UP a doh
I’m not a doctor, or a lawyer, I don’t even play one on TV
I can’t save your life, or sue that guy, or increase the GDP
but when that woman needs some old fashioned lovin’ and she needs it stat,
well I convinced her, I’m the guy for that.
and I contend, I’m content with that.

When She's Away

When She’s Away by Noah Kleiman, 2011
When she’s away
I never know what to do
like someone paused everything, and muted the volume too.
And left me here,
to think about what I’ve done.
And suddenly a dozen things I’d rather do, don’t seem any fun.
I feel so lost, that I might just give-up, and hug the nearest tree,
And wait beneath the branches till she comes back home to me.
When she’s away
And I’m suddenly free to do
Anything in the world I deem, interesting enough to do
That’s when I find,
my mind wants something more
cause there’s just one star up in heaven I can even twinkle for.
I feel so lost, that I might just give-up, and hug the nearest tree,
And wait beneath the branches till she comes back home to me.
When She’s Away (when she’s away) X6
When She’s Away And I’m Alone
When she’s away
I never know what to do
like someone paused everything, and muted the volume too.
And left me here,
to think about what I’ve done.
And suddenly a dozen things I’d rather do, don’t seem any fun.
I feel so lost, that I might just give-up, and hug the nearest tree,
And wait beneath the branches till she comes back home to me.
When She’s Away.

Buffalo Nickel words and music by Noah Kleiman 2008
Oh, I'm rollin like/ a buffalo nickel / a buffalo nickel / I'm black in the middle, yeah !
And you're pretty /like a little wheat penny / the little wheat penny/ I picked up in the city
I said “Hey, / why not roll beside me cinderella ? “
This little wheat penny / with a buffalo nickel.
You said, “Sir, /you seem like an interesting fella
I'll walk beside you for a while / if you hold my umbrella Yeah y (pronounced eee) Yeah !
Oh, I'm rollin like/ a buffalo nickel / a buffalo nickel / I'm black in the middle, yeah !
And you're pretty /like a little wheat penny / the little wheat penny/ I picked up in the city
I said “You're so shiny, and your spinning makes me shiver
This little wheat penny / with a buffalo nickel.
You said, “Sir, /you seem like a fellow I could fancy
Let's spin the night together, buy me dinner, take me dancing Yeah y Yeah !
Oh, I'm rollin like/ a buffalo nickel / a buffalo nickel / I'm black in the middle, yeah !
And you're pretty /like a little wheat penny / Oh, little wheat penny, baby/ Happy Anniversary
Y'know it's been nearly Nine years that we've rolled together
And though we're getting older, darlin', practice makes us better
We've made a life together, it's wholesome and it's simple
This little wheat penny, with a buffalo nickel

You by Noah Kleiman, 2011
You_______, you’re not what I expected
And you,__ I never would have guessed
You came in my life somehow the universe expanded
You know it’s been expanding ever since.
I ______ I’m not yer standard romeo
and you,___ yeah, you’re no cap-u-let
but anyone can tell it by the way we fit together
the stars were in alignment when we met.
Who _____ drove me to get my wisdoms out
and who____ was there when I came to
You’ve always been the one I could depend on in a crisis
And the price is that I’m always here for you.
Girl ____ I love the fiesty way you act
Sweet thang when I’m alone with you
A fella never knows what could be lurkin’ ‘neath the surface
but I’m sure it keeps me coming back to you.
You_______, you’re not what I expected
And you,__ I never would have guessed
You came in my life somehow the universe expanded
You know it’s been expanding ever since.

Hunger & Fear

Hunger & Fear by Noah Kleiman, 2011
Well I smell your hunger, and your desperation
and it carries on the wind, for many miles away
and it scares away birds, and, frightens the fishes,
makes the mighty bison , feel like hiding away
They say hunger and fear they’re, good motivation
when your very survival is all that’s at stake
but as people evolved, and built civilization
the hunger was fed, but, the fear still remains
and it lives with the miners, in the dark of the mine shaft
and it grows in the fields where the poor children play
and it spreads to the hearts of the men and the women
working under your thumb in this office all day.
It’s in the net of the fishermen, set adrift on a stormy sea
on the lips of a dying man, as the world fades away
but i’d sooner fade softly, all alone on the ocean
than ever let fear make a puppet of me
For one hundred days I’ve been your willing brother
I’ve been a good partner and a top advocate
But the day came when fear, and, anxiety called you
and they rocked at your cradle and they rattled your gate
So you came to my table, and you poisoned my drink , friend.
Broke the skin of my waters, by throwing soap in the tank.
and the boats that were floating, in that sacred harbor
slowly filled with water, then floundered and sank.

Rookie of the Year

Rookie of the Year - Noah Kleiman 2009
Had the greatest, ever after - Full of laughter should-a seen me
With my fastball, and my teammates had my back, nobody beat me.
Till the people at the top concocted, wicked little plans
and they had the gall to bet against the ball club and the fans.
but when wealth and pride, called me aside, to whisper in my ear
and they said I had to throw the game, or they would throw me out-a there
I said:
You can't take away my pitching stats, or snatch this series ring
And the fans will know a fix is in when the pitcher quits the team.
Remember me the MVP , and one-time Rookie of the year
then start a-wonderin why I'm grinning as I'm walkin' outta here
I always thought some awful injury, would strike to steal my thunder
or I'd make a bad mistake and let the outcry drag me under
So I'm quite relieved I'm moving on, with my street cred, and my throwing arm
and so many folks still proud of what I do
I'm a man who did what's right and tried to make your dreams come true.
Had my greatest season ever - pitched no hitters, maybe you saw me
when it seemed the team was onto something bigger than a ball game
Till the folks I trusted most, started telling dirty little lies
and they came up with a plan they hoped, would cut me down to size
You see, fear and greed met secretly, to think of ways to hurt me
and greed told fear to buy me out, while retiring my jersey.
But they couldn't change my pitching stats, or snatch my series ring
my old playbook doesn't play the same without a pitcher on the team.
So I grabbed my mitt, and my batting glove, took the photo of my lady love
And I walked off slightly rattled, mostly proud
I do miss the attention, and the roaring of the crowds,
But As I thought of all the things I'd done, to earn a spot on that pitchers mound
And the little league pitchers who came to see me play...
Now listen close, your coach has something serious to say:
If wealth and pride, call you aside, to whisper in your ear
And they lean on you to throw a game at the height of your career.
Think of me the MVP and one time rookie of the year,
set aside the pride of place, and take a good look in the mirror.
tell em: You can't take away my pitching stats, or snatch this series ring
And the fans will know a fix is in when the pitcher quits the team.
Oh, and If you're looking, for some one to man a pitchers mound,
Well I'll gladly throw some heat for other teams in other towns
Yeah I'll gladly throw some heat for other teams in other towns

Poison

Poison by Noah Kleiman – 2009
It was poison / Got the best of me. I was blinded / Temporarily
By the flashing light, of something, going right, finally.
But I was poisoned / unexpectedly / and the poison worked quick you see.
Now I'm fallin', and there ain't no end in sight, for me.
CHORUS
When your poisoned, nothings the same
From the numb in your feet / to the death of your brain
and there's a moment, a slow moment,
where you're poisoned and you know it.
And you loose a little get-up and go then,
you say, “I'll beat it, If only to show them”
That's just the poison, runnin' into your heart
It'll tear you apart , trust me I know ‘cause...
It was poison / Got the best of me. I was blinded / Temporarily
By the flashing light, of something, going right, finally.
It was poison / of a dangerous kind. Some nasty substance messed up my mind
Now I'm wondering who coulda fed that stuff to me, I'm so sweet.
[Chorus]
Now this poison / had the simplest cure / But the procedures too much /
For a man to endure / and calling for help only summons a fairweather friend,
that's the end.
[ Chorus ] (alt: it'll tear you apart, if you try to control it, that’s poison)

The Ride of Your Life

The Ride of Your Life by Noah Kleiman 2009
Sometimes it starts so simply, there isn't time to wonder if it's right
Just time to buckle in and hang on tight, as it takes you for the ride of your life.
And just like any coaster ride you know, the starting part is rough and slow
But you're building poten-chill / as you drag your ass uphill.
but sometimes you move so slowly / that it's unclear where you're going
and you hope the future's warm, and safe, and bright
As you're bundled at you shabby desk / spinning nothing into what you know is right
and yer heater casts a shadow against the dim hope of a bare-bulb basement light.
Oh, sometimes it works so simply, you never stop to question if it's right
as the visions in your head materialize, from the cobwebs in the corners and the quiet.
As you scribble down your dreams they seem to summon something real, that's parked outside.
Keep both hands on the steering wheel, and one eye in the rear-view mirror.
You're piloting the ride of your life.

The One That Might-a-Never-Was Noah Kleiman April 2011
And if some summer morning , love you take a walk out-side
and happen to look upward past the buildings to the sky
let your vision rest a moment, on that distant summit , or a cloud
as you mind collects the memory of, the one that might-a never-was
and the words you wish you’d spoken out loud
but dwell upon him gently as you continue on your way
let the path behind illuminate, the road ahead today
put your heart back in your bra strap, at the clavicles cascade
where you keep the rules you follow, and the rules you sometimes break
So that on a future morning, love, as you step out side your door
and your mem’ry draws your footsteps towards a place from yester-fore.
those thoughts won’t cloud your vision, should a special stranger, cross your path
and your heart will find exceptions to, the things you-musn’t-ever do
especially when it comes to charming chaps.
So dwell upon it gentely, and continue on your way.
let the path behind illuminate the road ahead today
with your heart packed in your bra strap, bundled tightly to your breast
where you’ll always keep the memory of, the one that might-a-never-was,
and the things you know were probably for the best.

Maybe A Windmill, words and music by Noah Kleiman 2009
Maybe a windmill will carry me away
Carry me away today
Lookin' for somethin' that will carry me away
and a windmill fits the bill I'd say
I'll get a booster jet to shoot me in the sky
shoot me in the sky so high
lookin for somethin that will carry me away
and a booster jet's a sure bet, I'd say
A simple hang glider to float me in the air
Float me away up there
Rising on a thermal that could carry me away
for a trip round the world in 80 days
'cause I
:||Can't stay around here, No
can't say around here, No
can't say around here,
Gotta get out while the coast is clear
:||
Oh -
May-be a windmill will carry me away
Carry me away today
